Should Childhood Trauma Be Treated As A Public Health Crisis?

“A new study shows how the effects of childhood trauma persist and are linked to mental illness and addiction in adulthood. It also shows that broad-based policy solutions are needed in addition to individual interventions, a lead researcher says.”

A couple other ideas to add to this would be differentiating between a single traumatic experience and impact of chronic stressors from which one cannot escape (especially children) as a form of trauma.

Also, we all experience trauma. It’s when it goes unresolved that the more pernicious consequences set in. It can be resolved. You can get it out of your body. We know some of the approaches. And that is where I think the policy work can play an important role.
